The Client: A family-run business with lake-side, self-catering lodges on the edge of the Lake District (and within striking distance of the Yorkshire Dales). With state-of-the-art facilities, the lodges balance a rural retreat approach with high-quality guest facilities. With abundant wildlife, a beautiful lake, and natural grounds, they are a regular winner of the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation.
The Brief: The business had a very dated website that was rapidly losing ground in Google Search and could not be updated, it was time for a new website to take them forward. The brief was to design a fresh, clean and easily navigable new website that retained their existing booking engine. Technical advice was part of this brief – poor advice that had been received previously placed the business at significant risk of losing all web traffic. They had also been badly advised regarded web addresses, which would have seen customers getting Lakeland Lodges mixed up with a competitor’s url. I ensured that all existing traffic was transferred via a new, internal link structure and Google responded to the changes in a positive way with no loss of traffic.
The website’s admin system is now quick and easy for my clients to update, and website traffic is growing year on year. The existing booking system worked well for the client and now the new website complements that by driving more bookings and repeat visits through. The website design is now clean and attractive, with a feeling of spaciousness provided by a zesty colour palette and white space. The photography has room to breathe and it now successfully showcases the stunning location, lodge interiors and on-site facilities. Most importantly, the call to book is never far away, ensuring that there are no dead ends in the customer journey – prospective bookers can’t get lost on this new site.

The new website is working like a dream. Lots of people using the ‘Contact us’ link which are following straight on to bookings. Owners are also very pleased with the new site, and I’m no longer embarrassed to send people to look at it.
